When making that list of character traits of an ideal partner, do you say: intelligent, attractive, sense of humor, honest, caring, good job, and lives in squalor? I doubt it.

I remember about 10 years ago while in my early 20s making such a list of all the traits that I wanted in an ideal partner. As I read that list to a friend, he turned back at me and said, "Are you all those things?" I shook my head and sadly replied, "No." But something clicked and I got it. How could I expect to attract a mate with all of those qualities when I myself did not have all of them? I realized that I needed to spend less time searching for the right partner and focus more on becoming the right partner.

As if you needed one more thing to think about in terms of attracting a romantic partner here goes: What does your home say about your readiness for love?

We work on our minds, we improve our bodies, and we deepen our connection to our souls. But, what about the environment in which we live, our home? Our homes are a reflection of who we are and how we live. If your home is a mess then chances are your life may be a bit of a mess too.

Do you enjoy spending time at home, nesting? Would you feel comfortable if an unexpected visitor stopped by? Still waiting for the right time to finish decorating? Do you have a cluttered home with things not in their place and closets jam packed with stuff? Does your apartment still look like you're in college? So much time is spent trying to attract Mr. Right, but are you even ready for when he arrives?

So, let's get your home ready for love.

1. Create a Space That You Love
When we create spaces that we love to come home to, we are automatically lifted and restored when we are there. We feel good in these spaces. Think about how you feel when you put on that favorite pair of jeans. You feel comfy and confident. The same is true for our homes and this good energy makes us more attractive. Make a list of all the things that you love including favorite colors, patterns, and textures. Include periods and styles of furnishings that you like. Think about artwork that speaks to you, travel mementos you've collected and favorite photographs. Part of creating an inspiring home is surrounding yourself with things that you love.

2. Feather Your Nest
And if you needed a little science to back this up, think about animals or birds for instance. They must prepare their nest before they are ready to create a family. Preparing your nest is symbolic. It shows the universe that you are ready for love. Not only do you want to create a beautiful home you want your home to be warm, comfortable and inviting. To do this, think about how you engage all of the senses. Sight, a beautiful lamp; smell, a favorite scented candle; taste, a delicious cup of tea; touch, a soft cashmere throw; sound, create a playlist of your favorite songs. Now your nest is complete and you are ready for when he shows up.

3. Organize and Keep Tidy
Pick up your panties. Just kidding. In all seriousness though, if you can't take care of a home, then you will most likely have trouble taking care of your relationship. If you can't keep it together with just one person then you will definitely struggle when there are two under one roof. First, get rid of the clutter. When you clear away the clutter, you not only create more physical space, buy you create energetic space as well. Next, establish some organization and get in the habit of putting things back in their place right after using them. Don't let stuff pile up. Finally, keep it clean as you go.

4. Party of Two
The concept of planning for two is good advice inspired by Feng Shui, the Chinese practice of balancing the energy of one's home. Create the space for a love interest to reside. Remember to think in pairs. For example, I presented a nightstand option to a client and his response was, "Great, let's order one." With a grin, I asked him where the future boyfriend is supposed to set his things at nighttime. Needless to say, we ordered two. Other suggestions include leaving empty hanging space in your closet, throwing in a splash of pink, letting in fresh air when you can, displaying fresh flowers and lighting a candle daily while thinking about inviting love into your life.

Start paying attention to your home giving it the TLC it deserves and you will quickly see order and balance spilling into the rest of your life. With spring approaching, commit to making some changes. In no time, you will have a home that you love and a place that you want to share, because now your home is ready for love.
