Honey Maid's Latest 'Wholesome' Ad Will Melt Your Heart

The clip shows a father coming to terms with his gay son, who is now a dad himself.

Honey Maid continues to break boundaries and open hearts with its stunning "This Is Wholesome" campaign.

Titled "Mis Hijos" (or "My Children"), the graham cracker company's latest commercial features a Spanish-speaking father describing how he came to terms with his gay son, who is now a husband and dad himself.

"I did not know your partner would be a man. It was a shock," the man, who is seated at a picnic table with his son and grandchildren, says in the ad, which features subtitles. "I thought I had lost my son, but now, I realize I have two."

The clip, which debuted online April 4, concludes with a sweet shot of the entire family, before the older man adds, "I think any child would be lucky to have two dads like you."

Now in its third year, Honey Maid's "This Is Wholesome" campaign has also featured multiracial and single-parent families. A commercial released earlier this month depicted a Muslim woman who was getting to know her neighbors. In 2014, the company included two gay fathers in an inclusive television advertisement that featured several families.

The aim of the effort is to tap "into a cultural insight that is rooted in the change of the American family dynamic," according to Katrina Plummer, who is the Equity Brand Manager for Honey Maid, which is owned by Mondelēz International.

"In 2016, we're encouraging Americans to view the world through the eyes of acceptance," Plummer said in a press release, "and remember that no matter how families might change, just like our products, what makes them wholesome remains the same."
