House Tour: Thom Filicia's Americana Home Featured In House Beautiful November 2012 (PHOTOS)

He stole our hearts as a host of “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy.”

Thom Filicia stole our hearts as one of the hosts of "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy." And ever since, he's been keeping us on our toes as both a talented designer and author. In his new book "American Beauty" he explores the importance of staying connected to your roots. So, when we got a sneak peek of his Skaneateles, NY house tour featured in House Beautiful's November issue, we had to share.

Filicia’s lake house, just minutes from his hometown of Syracuse, is classic American with a touch of sophistication in its decor. He designed the entire house using pieces from favorite retailers like Restoration Hardware and his own line -- all chosen to convey comfort and entertainment.

For instance, he went with a 10-foot-long couch to ensure enough seating for his many guests that frequent the home. He also ditched rugs and linens in his dining room for Buckley Royal fabric on the walls and chairs to add warmth. But the coziest room in the house may be the den where Filicia attached battens to the walls and ceilings, scattered thick pillows and installed swing arm lights to compliment the existing plank doors.

But the truest example of Americana lives in his backyard where there's a fire pit, dock and boathouse. Every piece of furniture, and even the boat, is embellished with either red, white or blue accents.

While everyone's definition of American style differs, Filicia has been able to execute his version perfectly in his gorgeous home. Click through our slideshow to see some photos of Filicia’s home and be sure to pick up the November issue of House Beautiful available on October 16.
