How Abortion Access Is Kind Of Like The Worst Tech Support Ever

"Are you sure that's what you want?"

In an imagined world where other industries handle customers the same way many women are treated when they seek abortions, the results are pretty bizarre.

A video from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) shows a woman calling tech support in hopes of fixing her laptop. Instead, she runs into some obstacles.

After clarifying that the customer requested "female computer service," a representative (a man, notably) asks if she's sure this is what she wants.

"Sure, I don't know anything about you or lady computer users or how they work, but because I disapprove of your choices, here are some false but scary implications of your actions," the rep says. "Using computers causes cancers in ladies, says no reputable source I can find on the Internet but I feel like that's true."

While the tech support scenario above is clearly fictional, barriers to abortion access are real. From traveling long distances to clinics to going through mandatory waiting periods, women seeking abortions face many obstacles.

The video reflects these waiting periods as the woman remains on the phone for 72 hours trying to get assistance. In the end, she gets hit with another hurdle as the representative says he doesn't think she's "capable of making decisions for" herself.

Ugh.
