How About That Booty Call On LinkedIn?

The whole point of social media is to be, well, social. However, just as you would watch how you behave in person in the office or at a company event, you should do the same online.

A recent YourDailySuccessTip.com tip reminded readers LinkedIn is NOT Facebook. Replies flooded our inbox with one subscriber commenting, Thank you! Lately, I've seen a lot of LinkedIn updates that are "Facebook type" and not at all appropriate for LinkedIn. Political discourse and "drama" do not belong on this professional site.

So, here is a brief social media refresher guide. Print it, cut it out, tape it to your computer, save it electronically, send it to someone:

•LinkedIn is a professional meeting -- would you do it or say it in an office or in a company, employee, or client meeting?

•Twitter is an industry gathering -- would you share that or say that at a conference or industry happy hour?

Google+ is for - hmmmm -- what is Google+ for?

Facebook is a neighborhood party -- how much do you want to share with everyone on your street and their friends as well?

•Foursquare is about looking for companionship -- are you looking for someone to join you wherever you are? If not, then we don't care.

•Instagram is for sharing pictures -- this is like making relatives sit down and watch your vacation pictures for hours. Unless it is really interesting, keep it to yourself.

The whole point of social media is to be, well, social. However, just as you would watch how you behave in person in the office or at a company event, you should do the same online.

What would you add to the list?
