How Do You Spell 'Ramadan'? Adorable Kids Sound It Out

If you're reading this, you already know how the Muslim holiday of Ramadan is spelled. But ask a young child to sound out the word and they may struggle for a few minutes.

The result of such an experiment was captured in a recent video by EidPrayLove, a Muslim group that aims to spread a message of interfaith co-existence through multi-media campaigns. The organization reached out to Muslim parents on Facebook and assembled a group of Muslim-American children to appear in the video.

"Our goal was to capture the innocent passion of children and use their voice to inspire Muslims to use Ramadan as a time to reflect on how we can improve ourselves and be better members of our community," Bassel Riche, co-founder of EidPrayLove who created the video with Salmaa Elshanshory and Dania Khan, told The Huffington Post.

Ramadan is a period of fasting during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar that comprises one of the five pillars of Islam. The children in the video struggled at first to spell the name of the holiday, but with teamwork they eventually sounded it out.

"We hope that this video will be the first of a series featuring children and the lessons we can learn from their youthful innocence," Riche said.
