How Frat Hazing Inspired A Book About Sex Between Straight Guys

"Not Gay" author Jane Ward investigates flexible heterosexuality.

Institutions rooted in tradition, like college fraternities and the military, have long been known to ritually haze their new recruits and pledges. But when these hazings turn blatantly homoerotic -- which they often do, according to author Jane Ward -- there's an unexpected denial of the interaction's sexual nature.

Ward talked with HuffPost Live on Thursday about her new book, Not Gay: Sex Between Straight White Men, and how straight men -- including those who are homophobic or misogynistic -- can wind up sleeping with another man.

Watch Ward describe the lives of straight men engaging in homosexual activity in the video above.
