"How I Met Your Mother" has officially gotten the green light for a ninth and final season and while CBS has mostly emphasized the upcoming reveal of the "mother," co-showrunner Craig Thomas is teasing other elements of Season 9 as well.
"It's going to be a new way to tell the story," Thomas told TV Guide of the CBS show's upcoming season. "You're never going to mistake a Season 9 episode from one of the previous eight.
"This is the final lap, so there's no more withholding of fun ideas," he added. "There's something very carpe diem about it. We're going for it and looking to not leave anything on the field. I hope that means these remaining episodes will be great."
Although CBS is sad to see the beloved series go, the network heads are excited for the show's final season.
"We‘re thrilled to have the entire and incredibly talented 'How I Met Your Mother' cast back for one final season to bring the series to a proper close," Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen of 20th Century Fox Television, said in a statement. "We have no doubt that [Carter Bays and Craig Thomas] will guide one of the greatest comedies of the last decade to a gratifying conclusion when they finally reveal the identity of the 'Mother.'"
"How I Met Your Mother" airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
