GRAPHIC: How Much Big Corporations Pay In Taxes

Earlier this year, General Electric came under intense scrutiny after a New York Times piece alleged the corporation, whose CEO heads Obama's jobs council, paid no income taxes last year .

The claim was later refuted by ProPublica, but not after the company decided to aggressively defend its image, even creating the Twitter account @GEPublicAffairs. Yet the central question remained: how much do these corporations hand over to the U.S. government?

The below infographic from Mint.com makes clear how much -- or little -- corporations actually pay on the billions they pull in each year. Some rates, like that of Exxon's, remain quite high. Others, such as GE, while paying more than nothing, still pay taxes at inarguably low rates.
