According to PornHub, American's porn-watching sessions are, on average, the longest in the world. The United States also holds the longest presidential elections in the world. Coincidence? We think not.

Thanks to the advent of the internet politics and porn have never been easier to consume, but we don't often consider how the two affect one another. So how did the 2016 election change the adult film industry?

Let's start with some context. Worldwide in 2013, PornHub had over 14 billion hits. That averages to 1.68 million visits per hour the entire year. Twelve percent of websites online are pornography. The adult film industry generates more revenue than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC. Admittedly things got a little weird during the election (politically) and the adult industry followed suit.

Michael McCrudden dives into the relationship between porn and the 2016 election in the video above. He breaks down the statistics behind the searches around the Trump family, and the trends surrounding election highlights like debate star Ken Bone. Porn parodies are nothing new but porn searches surrounding the presidential candidates and the Trump family skyrocketed during the 2016 election. The relationship is shocking and highlights the interesting trends in how Americans consume their pornography.
