How To Add Some Activism To Your Mother's Day Traditions

Brought to you by the Women's March.

The Women’s March organizers are launching their newest campaign just in time for Mother’s Day.

The campaign, Daring Discussions, was announced in a press release on Thursday, and prompts women to have important conversations with their moms this Sunday.

Organizers of the campaign will provide “step by step instructions, and sample questions to aid families, friends, colleagues, and strangers in 90 minute sessions on topics of ranging from privilege, to sexual orientation, to religion, to immigration, and more.”

The campaign’s organizers hope to inspire women to bond with their family members rather than focus on differences and disagreements.

In the campaign’s press release, Jenna Arnold, a strategic advisor to the Women’s March, said, “The world we live in is one increasingly focused on the things that divide us. Many of us find ourselves either arguing unproductively or completely avoiding issues that deeply impact our society and the future.”

Sarah Sophie Flicker, a fellow strategic advisor, said that Daring Discussions does not have to be limited to those who identify as “mothers” in the traditional sense.

“Daring Discussions is a call for mothers and all those who nurture to restore the fabric of our human relationships,” she said. “Carrying the torch of those from the past who worked toward peace, we hope this Guide helps you navigate Daring Discussions that will bring us closer to a more just country and world.”
