Recently I stumbled on The Men Who Built America while on Netflix. The series tells the exciting historical story of the unique people who not only created great companies but also created brand new industries in the process. There are clearly defining characteristics in which Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, Ford and Steve Jobs all had in common.
Gabe Zichermann noticed this not only by looking back on history, but throughout his own career as well. He recently gave a talk at the Founder Showcase about this. While in the process of creating successful companies Gabe had also simultaneously been at the epicenter of a few brand new industries.
