If you’re planning a big painting project in your house, it’s important to make sure your fixtures are protected. Normally, we use tape on our doorknobs, lighting and hardware but that’s usually hard to get off and sometimes just doesn’t provide proper coverage. Luckily, our friends over at Real Simple found a really interesting way to protect fixtures when painting.

All you have to do is take a piece of aluminum foil (new or recycled) and wrap it around these elements in your house. The foil will form to the shape of the piece and allow you to paint around them neatly.

This idea is really genius because you can paint freely without worrying whether your decor will be left with unsightly paint marks.
