Want to get the most ‘likes’ on your newest Instagram photo? You could easily take a cute photo of yourself with your friends from the weekend…or you could spend hours taking photos of yourself alone. That’s right, I’m talking about those selfies. Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m not ashamed of this and you shouldn’t be either.
We can see you making duck faces at your phone. The ‘I’m just checking my makeup’ line isn’t fooling anyone, honey. Just in case you aren’t a pro at taking selfies, we have a little how-to guide for you.
1. Make sure you’re camera ready.
Girls: I’m talking makeup like you’re getting ready for a night out (unless you’re going for the #nomakeup look).
Guys: get your one-size-too-small t-shirts out. And aviators if you want.
2. Decide which angle flatters you the most.
Girls: Take practice shots from the left/right/behind, tilt your head super sideways, camera up top/bottom/side, in front of a mirror, etc. My favorite angle is from up above (gets rid of the double chin and gives a perfect view of my boobs..I mean #newnecklace).
Guys: Don’t forget to flex.
3. Facial expression.
Girls: Lather on that lip gloss and get those duck faces out! Or look surprised. Or sleepy. Whatever floats your boat.
Guys: No smiling. Look serious.
4. Filtering
Looking a little pale? Nashville should give you a good glow. Want your #newshirt to be the focus? Go ahead and blur everything…I mean #newshirt. If one filter isn’t enough, you can always use two!
5. Hashtags
The final step in pulling in all those likes.
Girls: If you’re ‘not’ wearing make up throw in the #allnatural. Or you can describe everything about your face at the moment #blueeyes #brighteyes #cutie #girl #mascara #smokyeye #falsies #curlyhair #redlips #nofoundationcauseihaveperfectskin. Or you could tell people what you’re up to: #gettingreadyforwerk #waitingformybf #makingsillyfaces #gettingdolledup. If you’re out for the night don’t forget to say where #party #calvinharris #edm #housemusic #dj #plur #neon. Don’t be afraid to hashtag your entire caption. We are the #prettiest #girls in #Vancouver #tonight.

If you don’t have the number of ‘likes’ desired after a few hours, go back to that photo and add MORE hashtags. You can pull out the big guns: #blonde #brunette #redhead #igdaily #igcuties #likesforlikes #followme #followingback #igwhateveryoucanthinkof
