WATCH: Get Swabbed To Save Cancer Patients

DoSomething.org has launched a nationwide bone marrow registry drive and is targeting college students, some of the best donor candidates out there.

More than 10,000 cancer patients need bone manor transplants each year, yet only 2 percent of the population has had their cheeks swabbed to join the national registry, DoSomething.org reports. The nonprofit is helping college students increase those stats by partnering with them to set up bone marrow drives on campuses around the country.

"If you're contacted because you're a match, that is amazing," said filmmaker Andrew Jenks. "You have a real chance to save someone's life."

The organization will award the fraternity or sorority that recruits the most new registered donors.
