Howard Kurtz made his debut on Fox News Tuesday night, and the media critic provided his new home with a very network-friendly look at the media coverage of Egypt and the George Zimmerman trial.
Kurtz parted ways with CNN and moved to CNN to Fox News, where he will host a media show, in June. He comes to the network after weathering months of bad press, and after being fired from his other main perch at the Daily Beast.
Appearing on "Special Report," Kurtz--who is seen by many as having long been friendly towards Fox News--began by approvingly noting the channel's comparative restraint in covering the George Zimmerman trial. Asked by host Bret Baier about the cable news networks' relative attention to the story, Kurtz said, "It's not even close, Bret," and said that, while Fox News had covered the trial a lot, it was nowhere near the wall-to-wall treatment that MSNBC and CNN gave it. He added that he did not think the story worthy of all that time.
Kurtz also agreed with Baier that activists and the "race angle" in the Zimmerman case were the reason anybody was even interested in the story of Trayvon Martin's killing.
NOTE: This post has been updated to clarify that Kurtz said Fox News had less coverage of George Zimmerman, not more coverage of Egypt.
