HuffPost Launches Immersive Video Experience On Apple TV

With no busy "wall of thumbnails," the new design puts users straight into best videos.

Today we are excited to announce the launch of HuffPost on Apple TV. This completely new experience was built as a collaboration between HuffPost and Alpha, our innovation and experimental projects team.

HuffPost has long been committed to video storytelling ― on our own site and on social platforms. We couldn’t resist the draw of creating a bespoke experience for our content on Apple TV, dedicated to indulging in video.

The app welcomes users with The Top Five, a curated set of the day’s five biggest videos. Viewers are sure to find something to suit their tastes as they swipe through the rest of the app ― whether it’s a lighthearted entertainment video or the latest news from Washington.

HuffPost on Apple TV was designed specifically for the way HuffPost creates and distributes video content. We have done away with the standard “wall of thumbnails” experience most apps have on streaming boxes, and replaced it with an experience geared toward the TV, pushing users directly into video. The app showcases curated playlists aimed at offering users only highly topical content that they want to see. Users will also be able to easily navigate through videos with a flick of their thumb.

The app is the first in a new wave of initiatives on OTT devices. An app for Roku will launch in the next two weeks, followed by a new experience on Amazon Fire TV. These apps, also collaborations between HuffPost and Alpha, are among the major projects, including a chatbot, coming this summer.
