What is the reality of day-to-day life for some transgender women?

Many, particularly transgender women of color, become the subject of unjust profiling by their local police forces. This can lead police to falsely identifying transgender women as sex workers for merely walking down the street. HuffPost Live recently took a look at why this often happens.

"I want to say something that I think is extremely important when we talk about these larger issues, which is the way that our girls are systematically portrayed as prostitutes rather than victims," Natalie Delia Deckard told HuffPost Live. "When you have this tremendous quantity of African American and, to a lesser extent, Hispanic girls under the age of consent who are being tried as criminals in criminal court because the idea is that they're in some way inherently sex workers their age doesn't matter -- who is entitled to a childhood and who isn't?"
