Hugh Laurie In 'Robocop': 'House' Star Gets New Role

Hugh Laurie may have landed his first big post-"House" role: According to Variety, he's in talks to play the villain in MGM's long-gestating remake of "RoboCop."

Laurie, who just finished up eight seasons on the hit Fox television series, would play an evil corporate mastermind who turns a recently deceased Detroit police officer (Joel Kinnaman) into RoboCop. The film is a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 classic; director Jose Padilha has the reins this time around.

In the original film, Ronny Cox played the villain -- a position he would also fill in 1990's "Total Recall." Not coincidentally (since everything gets a remake in 2012 Hollywood), another "Total Recall" is out in theaters this summer, with actor Bryan Cranston filling the Cox role. In a twist of television fate, The "Breaking Bad" star defeated Laurie at the Emmy Awards three years in a row between 2008 and 2010.
