Hurricane Irene 2011's Path Along The East Coast (INTERACTIVE MAP)

Hurricane Irene left a path of destruction behind it on the East Coast this past weekend, slamming into North Carolina and traveling up as far as Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Hurricane paths are difficult to predict, but perhaps a bit easier to assess in retrospect. While many areas did experience serious damage and flooding, other areas were not affected quite as severely as was expected. By the time it hit much of New England, Irene had been downgraded to a tropical storm.
