Hurricane Irene 2011's Path Along The East Coast (INTERACTIVE MAP)

INTERACTIVE MAP: Where Irene Went

Hurricane Irene left a path of destruction behind it on the East Coast this past weekend, slamming into North Carolina and traveling up as far as Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Hurricane paths are difficult to predict, but perhaps a bit easier to assess in retrospect. While many areas did experience serious damage and flooding, other areas were not affected quite as severely as was expected. By the time it hit much of New England, Irene had been downgraded to a tropical storm.

You can get a better sense of how some areas got slammed by the storm in photos, here.

The map below details the path of the hurricane, as well its categorization and maximum wind speed at each point. You can adjust the hurricane's position by moving the slider on the right.
