Chrissy Teigen loves food. She is as real as they come for celebs on social media, and her focus on chowing down is nothing short of inspirational. Not only has the former model published her very own cookbook, Cravings (with another on the way), but she also fills her social media pages with all things food-related on the reg. And because I also love (and live for) food, I felt compelled to model my meals on her fabulous foodie inspiration for a week.
Thumbing through Teigen's Instagram account, I picked out the dishes that seemed to be 'grammed again and again to build my five-day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner plan. Her favorites (pizza, pasta, and Shake Shack) also happen to be mine. She loves Egg McMuffins? Hey, so do I! CT does cook at home in addition to eating out, so I tried to strike a somewhat fair balance. This will be great, I thought -- piece-of-Momofuku-funfetti-cake great.
And while my week started off strong (and delicious), this food journey ultimately turned into a struggle with a capital S. Because, as much as it kills me to say this, I have come to learn that there really is such a thing as too many burritos.
Day 1 Breakfast
I began with Teigen's "low and slow creamy eggs with garlic-roasted bacon and burst tomatoes" -- which have appeared on her Instagram more than once, so I'm assuming they're one of her breakfast faves.
While I admittedly have a slight pork sensitivity, I dove right into this first meal (because, bacon) -- and it was damn delicious. A pretty practical start to my CT journey (pork allergies aside).
Day 1 Lunch
For lunch, I turned to Teigen's sweet-chili salmon. She's apparently big into whipping up fresh fish at home -- and I, unfortunately, am not.
I cheated a little and purchased my salmon, pre-made, at the supermarket. It was less of a hassle than making it myself, but I would guess that Teigen's pan-seared (skin side up, people) would've tasted a lot better. Overall, I was still feeling good.
Day 1 Dinner
If you follow CT on any form of social media, you know that she absolutely loves pasta -- and guess what? Same.
So for my first day's dinner, I happily ordered up a big bowl of spaghetti, true Teigen-style. And I swirled, twirled, and savored every last cheesy bite.
Day 2 Breakfast
Teigen's next breakfast go-to: avocado toast with a fried egg on top, also known as her "favorite easy breakfast."
This one was a no-brainer for me, and is something I already regularly consume. And even though I didn't have the makings at home, you can luckily purchase avocado toast with a fried egg on top just about anywhere in NYC. It was delicious.
Day 2 Lunch
Teigen's super-timely summer rolls! CT impressively made her batch fresh at home...
But I, again, purchased mine pre-made. They were still fresh and pretty tasty (I was also able to tote them with me for a day trip to the beach). A win-win -- day two was going just as smoothly as day one.
I love Mexican food -- but this enormous burrito-and-taco combo is definitely more than I would usually order. And fam, I struggled to finish that massive burrito "table."
Day 3 Breakfast
I was running out of Teigen breakfast options that match my own favorites -- so I was left with Fruity Pebbles.
Still full from the previous night's Mexican meltdown, I resorted to eating these Fruity Pebbles cake balls (conveniently sent to me by friendly PR people). It was a strange and weirdly sugary start to my third day.
Day 3 Lunch
Teigen and her hubby, John Legend, love Shake Shack. And so do I. So do I...
Yep, this is when things really began to unravel for me. I was still full from my cake-ball breakfast. And while I'd never turn down a ShackBurger and some crinkle-cut fries, I was seriously starting to slow down. (I still finished every last bite.)
Day 3 Dinner
Teigen and Legend at it again with their bread-and-cheese-loving antics -- here's a shot from one of their Italy trips. And while I am a firm believer that pizza is life, four pies seemed a bit excessive.
So, I opted for one pie and called it a night on my day filled with cake, burgers, and pizza.
