I Hated Donald Trump but I Voted For Him: Here's Why.

I woke up on election day still completely unsure of who I was going to vote for or even if I was going to vote. I remember thinking I would rather die than to vote for Donald trump but Hillary Clinton was not an option for me. I knew voting third-party unfortunately was throwing my vote away, so ultimately I had to choose to vote for Red or Blue. When it came to Clinton, I have strong moral convictions against political corruption and Mrs. Clinton has a long line of that. She was willing to do whatever it took to win, no matter how corrupt it was and her campaign was funded in some degree by the big banks, large media and corporations. There is truth in numbers. As much as I wanted to see a woman become president, she was not the one. I have personally put myself at risk many times to fight against corporate corruption and once lost my job for standing up for dozens of employees.

There was no way I could vote for her and go against my own personal morals; many of the policies she supports are against every fiber of my being. On the other hand, as a victim of sexual assault, voting for Trump was like voting for every man that ever degraded me. The words that came out of his mouth triggered my pain. I never felt like Trump was as bad as the media painted him to be, but voting for a man that reminded me of every man that ever hurt me was not happening.

I knew I had to vote. Abstaining wasn't an option but I was torn in more ways than one. I decided to do what I do best as a spiritual teacher and surrender the outcome to God. I went into deep meditation and prayer, clearing any and all judgments and truly just listening to the voice of God. I knew my personal pain and judgments should not affect the choice I was making for the future of this country. I also knew that God knew best. When I came out of meditation, I heard a voice say "You have to vote against the corruption; you have to vote against the current system." My first thoughts were, "Okay, I'll vote for Jill Stein or write in Bernie." It was then that the gentle, yet urgent voice said, "You have to vote against the system."

My mind could not be reconciled, "You mean you want me to vote for Donald Trump? Never!"

It was then that the loving voice that guides me daily led me to the car and to St. Mary's Catholic Church to do the unthinkable and vote for Donald Trump.

I left there feeling free. I felt very courageous for going against the crowd and voting for the man that half of the world, including myself the day before, hated. I felt like I was being called to forgive every man that had ever hurt me in order to allow myself to heal what really needed to heal. My mind was racing. Did I just vote for the next Civil War? However, something inside of me felt so hopeful and connected, as if there were a plan far greater than I could ever imagine, that had lead me to the polls that day. I knew in my soul that I was standing up for what I believed in, but there was a part of me that didn't believe he had a chance in hell of winning. Later that night, I went home to watch the election and to my surprise, Donald Trump was winning. As half of the world was going into massive terror, I felt a major sense of peace knowing that God was in control and that all was in divine order. I sat there watching every second of the election results, feeling my purpose as a spiritual teacher multiplying with each second that passed and then I watched him win in utter amazement.

I couldn't sleep that night because watching so much hate and anger from both sides of the fence had taken its toll on me. Protests were breaking out in Los Angeles and the whole world seemed divided. I felt my purpose magnifying, knowing that this was the biggest turning point this country had ever seen and I was asked to be a bridge in a divided world. I spent the next few days in deep conversation with God while watching the wrath unfold online. I decided to stop believing everything I heard and just went with what I felt.

I asked God repeatedly to tell me why this was happening and this is what He said:

  • This election has brought our collective pain to the surface, not to cause more pain but to heal. In order to heal the world, we must bring all the issues to the surface. This election did not leave anything out. Our collective issues with racism, sexism, jobs, economics, corruption and everything in between are unavoidable. Issues on both sides of the fence have been brought to the surface and in God's eyes, not one side is more educated or more right or wrong. The problem lies in the division.
  • When people choose a President, they choose based on their own personal pain points. The coal miner in West Virginia is not going to vote the same as the woman who is concerned with reproductive rights. Their pain points are not the same and in some cases, you're lucky that they are not. It is not our job to judge or condemn but to listen and have respect for other people's views. If your uncle voted for Donald Trump and you are a part of the LGBTQ community, that does not mean that your uncle does not love you; it means your uncle has a fear that Trump addressed that made him feel safe. They are not voting to hurt you; they are voting to help themselves or to take care of their families. The media is playing on the insecurities of Americans to fulfill a certain agenda that the current system is aligned with. Unfortunately, the same people that are feeling targeted by Trump are actually being targeted by the leaders of this corrupt system. Be careful what you buy into.
  • The only person that understands the collective pain of the world is God. You will never understand someone else's problems or fears in this life and bashing them makes you just as bad as Trump. Calling people you've never met words like uneducated, racist, and everything negative will never bring you peace.
  • The responsibility needs to be put back on the people. The people need to use their unique gifts and talents in the world and not rely on a broken system. The only way to do that is to shatter the system and turn the responsibility to the people to heal this planet. The current government system only makes the government bigger and you more reliant on the system. The more you rely on the government, the less you rely on God.

In some ways, this whole process feels like The Final Judgement. I am in no way saying that Donald Trump was chosen by God to save the world, so please don't twist my words. I'm saying that the exact events leading up to and following the election are exactly what we need to shatter the system. Donald Trump has the same choice we all have. He can choose to create hate and separation or he can choose to listen to the American people and unite us.

I can assure you that I did not vote because I am racist, homophobic, or whatever else you want to call me. I voted for a massive healing in this world and the only way to do that is to bring the darkness to the light; so here we are. When I voted for Trump, I voted for you. All of you. To stand up for what you believe in. To take responsibility for your own life and to stop relying on any system, especially a corrupt one, to choose your own destiny. I don't know where we are headed and it may get really bad before it gets better but there is one thing I know for sure. This exact moment in history will be looked upon as the time that the people of America rose from the ashes and lit the world on fire with love. We all have a choice to make today. We can choose to blame, hate and call names or we can choose to make a change. I know what I choose.

As it was once eloquently stated "The planet does not need more 'successful people'. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing to join the struggle to make the world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture is the set." We need to have compassion for one another. We don't need to shatter the glass ceiling; we need to shatter the system. This is the time for all of us to rise.
