Ian Somerhalder Talks '50 Shades Of Grey' Role

Ian Somerhalder was expectedly coy about the possibility of taking on the lead role in the "50 Shades of Grey" film adaptation during his appearance on "Watch What Happens: Live." Rumors have been flying that "The Vampire Diaries" star is poised to become Christian Grey.

"I think they have a very big job ahead of them, casting this role," Somerhalder said. "So, I can’t say anything other than, it’s a very interesting story and whoever plays that role is going to have a lot of fun rehearsal time."

"I think that means he’s doing it, you guys," Andy Cohen told his audience.

He's definitely on the radar of author E.L. James. She re-Tweeted some fan art of Ian Somerhalder as Christian Grey with an added smiley face. Is that a stamp of approval?

There's no official word about the casting of the role from Universal Studios, nor is there a clear idea of when production might start. Universal's chairman did tease a summer 2014 release date.

If they do go with Somerhalder, though, they might need to kick production into gear. He's pretty busy with "The Vampire Diaries," which has already been picked up for a fifth season.

Catch Ian Somerhalder every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on "The Vampire Diaries." "Watch What Happens: Live" airs every weeknight at 11 p.m. ET on Bravo.
