Third baseman Ian Stewart was suspended by the Cubs organization after he went on a Twitter rant expressing his frustration toward the team's front office and Chicago manager Dale Sveum. Stewart is currently playing for the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.
Stewart has deleted his Twitter account, but screen shots of the tweets can be seen at nextimpulsesports.com.
When a fan asked on Monday when he would be returning to the majors, the 28-year-old didn't hold anything back.
"Probably never," he tweeted. "I meant they might as well release [me] since I have no shot of a call up... let me sign elsewhere."
The former No. 10 overall draft pick replied to a few fans and expanded on his feelings toward the team.
"I said that be because the cubs are done with me....there going going to let me rott in AAA all season and then non tender me after," he continued. "I think dale Doesn't like me and He's running the show."
Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein announced on Tuesday that Stewart has been suspended without pay, per MLB.com.
The Long Beach, Calif. native later apologized before deleting his account, via the Chicago Tribune.
Stewart appeared in 55 games with the Cubs last season but has yet to make an appearance with the club this year. He was batting .168 with five home runs and 20 RBIs through 40 games with Iowa.
