One refugee's precise beard-trimming skills have made him a fixture among the barbers of Budapest.

After fleeing Syria eight years ago, Ibrahim Haji Mohammad capitalized on the trend in Hungary for dyed and trimmed beards. He has built tight relationships with his customers since opening his shop two years ago.

But that wasn't exactly Mohammad's plan when he first left the unrest in his country. Mohammad, who was fleeing from Syria's Kurdish region, had intended to settle near his brothers in Denmark or Sweden, but fell in love with a Hungarian woman along the way, whom he later married.

Although Mohammad was detained twice and it took over a year and a half to receive asylum, he has finally made roots in Hungary. He and his wife, Krisztina Nagy, now have a 5-year-old son. Mohammad's barber shop is taking off. He even plans to apply for Hungarian citizenship.
