There is an incredible array of amazing music and talented bands coming out of Iceland these days (examples include Bjork, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros, FM Belfast, Borko, the list goes on and on). However, while this post is about music, it's not about the modern, but ancient, in terms of Iceland. Specifically, the 13th century.
Watch what happens in this video above from Arstidir when an Icelandic hymn written in the year 1208 entitled "Heyr, himna smiður" was performed live over 800 years later in a German train station outside the city of Wuppertal on September 15.
Clarification: Although the lyrics to the hymn were written in the 13th century, the melody, written by Icelandic composer Thorkell Sigurbjornsson, was created in the 1970s.
