#IdVolunteerBut Reminds Us We Have No Excuse To Not Give Over Our Time

"Naps are better."

Volunteer rates are up among young people, but a recent Twitter trend seems to have challenged that well-documented phenomenon.

On Tuesday afternoon, #IdRatherVolunteerBut... climbed to the top 10 trends in the U.S. on Twitter. The popular hashtag was accompanied by a range of tongue-in-cheek excuses as to why users couldn’t give up their time for others.

But as the level of absurdity among the reasons increased (i.e. prior pig-bathing commitments), it became all the more clear that no one involved in the conversation was actually trying to justify not helping out people in need.

In fact, they may have gone so far as to subvert the trend to remind us that if we have the time to come up with clever tweets throughout the day, perhaps we can also dedicate our skills to supporting a cause.
