The new release from powerHouseBooks titled, "If You Knew Me You Would Care" presents stunning photographs of women living where violence, poverty, and conflict are a given. Luckily, they have survived to tell their tale. Paired with their personal stories, the photographs of smiling faces become truly powerful and inspiring documents of life beyond crisis.
"If You Knew Me You Would Care" is a collaboration between photographer Rennio Maifredi and Zainab Salbi, the founder of Women for Women International, a nonprofit organization that helps survivors of war rebuild their lives. Maifredi and Salbi travelled through Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to conducts interview with the survivors of war.
On February 28, Maifredi and Salbi will lead a slideshow presentation of their travels for the book launch at powerHouse Arena in Brooklyn. "If You Knew Me You Would Care" hits shelves on March 5.
