Ignacio Ramirez Charged With DUI In Pilsen Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Cyclist (VIDEO)

Man Charged With DUI In Fatal Hit-And-Run Bike Crash

A man is due in bond court Wednesday after being charged with drunk driving and other felonies following a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Pilsen early Tuesday morning.

Ignacio Ramirez, 38, of the 500 block of West Walton, was charged with an aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, reckless homicide and aggravated fleeing police, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Ramirez also allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and had been driving without a license or insurance.

Ramirez was arrested in the 1400 block of South Halsted Street, where police caught up with him, after he allegedly veered into the cyclist, struck him and drove off near the 1100 block of West 18th Street.

Authorities identified the bicyclist, who was reportedly biking to visit friends, as 30-year-old Frederick Kobrick, who lived on the 1700 block of South Desplaines Street, the Chicago Tribune reports. After the collision, Kobrick was rushed to Stroger Hospital, but was pronounced dead later that morning.

A neighbor and fellow cyclist George Black placed a vase with a small plant at the spot where the bicyclist was killed later Tuesday, according to ABC 7. Black told ABC 7 that the bike lanes along that stretch of 18th Street have been "busy" as of late, while another neighbor said she frequently observed drivers carelessly ignoring the clearly marked lanes.

"You are really taking your life in your hands," Black added.

According to a commenter on EveryBlock, Kobrick was involved with a music project titled Geometric Temples, and friends told CBS 2 that he was an avid artist and photographer.
