Ikea Files Request To Open A Museum In Original Store Location

Simplistic signage. Cheap bookcases. Names you'll never be able to pronounce. And most of all, those lip smackin' Swedish meatballs swaddled in a sweet coat of warehouse-warmed gravy.

We're utterly thrilled that Ikea has filed a request to open a museum at the location of its original store in Älmhult, Sweden.

The museum -- which will open in 2015 if all goes according to plan -- will walk visitors through Ikea's 70-year history and "design heritage," exposing the stories behind all your favorite shelves, cabinets, and some-assembly-required nightstands.

"Fun and interactive" exhibits will also include tales about the people who grew Ikea into the furniture mogul it is today.

Ikea representatives said they were inspired to create the museum after noticing an influx of Ikea fans from Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands making trips to visit the original store. They expect the Ikea museum will attract about 200,000 visitors a year.

We're assuming the meatballs will have an extra coating of gravy at the museum... and if so, we'll be the first in line.
