This Is How Hip-Hop Artist iLoveMakonnen Got So Fit

The artist said he avoids fried foods and opts for kale smoothies.

Hip-hop artist iLoveMakonnen has made a healthy lifestyle change since the mainstream debut of his Drake-assisted song "Tuesday." In a chat with HuffPost Live, the OVO artist explained what prompted his health kick and how he's been able to shed so much weight.

"I have to be [on stage] jumping up and down and giving them my all. And it's really helped to keep the crowd going and the show going," he told host Alyona Minkovski. "Before, like last March, I would be tired about 20 minutes in… But now, it's good. It gets the people going and it's a real inspiration to a lot of people."

Now the ATL native is more active, powers up with kale smoothies, and avoids fried foods. While he isn't a vegan himself, he said his mom's vegan lifestyle taught him a lot about healthy eating.

"My mom is a vegan for over 20-plus years, so it's always been in my household on how to eat the vegan way and cut out fried foods and drinking more water. So credit to my mom, definitely," he said.

When it comes to alcohol, the hip-hop artist said he's not a fan.

"I actually don't drink alcohol," he said. "When I was 21, I got into it for a little while, but it just wasn't for me. So I don't drink alcohol as much."
