I'm Plus-Size, Deal With It

Body shaming is not okay. Our bodies are the shells for our souls. It's like an egg that holds a baby chick inside. Our soul and who weare is the baby chick.

I want to talk about body shaming. Recently, if you follow me on Twitter, you will know that I went off on a bit of a rant about body shaming. I admit that I am overweight, but just because I'm a larger size doesn't mean I'm less of a person. My experiences as a plus-size girl my entire life have taught me that being the best you that you can be is all that matters.

I've been plus-size for a very long time. I've always been insecure about my body, but I think everyone has insecurities involving his or her body. I don't think body insecurities ever go away. I hope we will all start to realize that what we look like on the outside isn't who we really are. The problem I see with our generation is that it's not only the little voices inside our head that judge us -- it's the society we live in.

The society we live in is filled with people who judge others based on the size they wear. To me, that just seems like ignorance. I am not who I am because of the size I wear. I'm a good person. You, who happen to be reading this right now, are a good person. We do not deserve to be shamed by the little number on the tag of our clothing. No one deserves to have that number on a little piece of clothing determine what others think of us.

Do you know that the clothing size number changes based on what country you live in? A size 18 in America is the equivalent to a different number on the tag in Britain and Italy and anywhere in the world. So my question is: Why do others judge us and why do we get insecure based on that number? What does it matter if I wear a size 18 in jeans? If I went to Japan, found a cute pair of jeans and they fit, does it matter that the number on the tag might be bigger or smaller than the size I would wear in my home country? We should all feel comfortable going into any store and find something we feel beautiful in and just buying it regardless of the size! I believe we should all feel free to be comfortable with who we are.

Body shaming is not okay. Our bodies are the shells for our souls. It's like an egg that holds a baby chick inside. Our soul and who we really are is the baby chick. If you break the shell, it can severely damage the development of the chick. If you body shame someone it can have an everlasting effect.

I just want everyone to feel beautiful in his or her own skin. If you are having a difficult time right now, please know that everyone deals with insecurities and there are always people to talk to. I hope you can look in the mirror and see that you are an incredible human being that deserves the absolute best in life.
