Stray Cats Get Warm Welcome Inside Turkish Mosque

Imam Mustafa Efe lets abandoned kitties take shelter.

Adorable kitties are getting sanctuary inside a mosque in Turkey this winter.

Big-hearted imam Mustafa Efe lets stray cats shelter from freezing cold temperatures inside the Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi Mosque in Istanbul, according to local English-language newspaper Daily Sabah.

Photographs he's posted to Facebook show the felines roaming freely around the historic building, jumping on his back and even mingling with worshipers.

It's unclear exactly how many cats have made the building their home. But Efe has also uploaded video footage showing a mother cat carrying her newborn kittens one by one into the mosque.

He described them as "our mosque's Friday guests," according to the Daily Sabah.

Perhaps predictably, the images and footage have gone viral. And visitors to the mosque also can't get enough of their new furry friends, as this picture proves:

Good work, Mustafa.
