The Indie Lipstick Brands You Need To Know Right Now

8 Amazing Lipstick Brands That Aren't MAC

As beauty fanatics here at HuffPost Style, it's easy for us to name our favorite lipsticks in rapid succession. While we often name the latest colors from MAC and drugstore champion Wet N Wild, there are some lesser-known lines that make us want to apply lipstick all day long.

Indie lipstick companies create products that aren't derived from mainstream beauty standards and trends. Instead, lesser-known brands offer off-beat lip colors, like greens and blues, and provide ranges for different skin tones. Additionally, many indie beauty companies are fueled by their missions to create makeup products with fewer toxins. While some companies make formulas without parabens, there are other brands that sell gluten-free, vegan and eco-friendly goods.

"Indie brands can come out with products a lot faster, be a lot edgier and really engage and interact with their customers better," The Lip Bar founder and owner Melissa Butler says.

Butler came up with the idea for her company after being "one angry consumer" who had trouble finding bright and bold lipstick colors made with natural and organic ingredients. So she created The Lip Bar, which now serves consumers who want to wear awesome lip colors made with fewer toxins.

So it's about time for you to jump on this wagon if you haven't already. Check out our list of brands you should know and love in the list below.

Cate McNabb Cosmetics has a great mineral makeup line. Their cruelty and paraben-free lipsticks are strongly pigmented. With an ingredient list that includes shea butter and jojoba oil, your pout will stay soft and moisturized.

The Lip Bar is another brand that cares about its ingredients, creating lippies made from avocado and castor oils. You can find green and cool gray shades here.
