Whew! I'm glad that's over. I could barely watch as my Titans got beat up on by my old college QB. Since I got lots of emails, comments, texts and Facebook questions about my odd predicament -- let me educate all those not from the great state of Tennessee.
We love football in Tennessee. We start loving football from junior pro all the way up to the NFL. However, the NFL is relatively new in the state. Before owner Bud Adams blessed us with the Tennessee Oilers (soon to be the Titans) in the late 90s, the University of Tennessee was all the football we had. I mean seriously it's been around for 100+ years and we BELIEVE in our VOLS.
Some of us including me even follow them (gasp) into their pro careers. Tell me UT grads you didn't scream and say "he went to UT" when Robert Meachem took the ball away from a defender to score a TD in the Saints game -- I'll admit it I did.
So that's why I still have a soft spot for Peyton Manning. He was a HUGE part of Tennessee football for four years -- one of which I witnessed as a student. He broke all the records and became a Tennessee legend. Now don't get me wrong. I HATE Peyton two days a year when he plays my Titans. But let's just say I hate the Ravens and Ray Lewis WAY more since they tend to stop our playoff runs. Now on to the game.
The Titans were and still are the last team to beat the Colts and and my boys wanted to end their streak. However, it was not meant to be. This week no last minute heroics were needed. No missed kicks, 4th-and-2 decisions, or comebacks necessary. Manning and the Colts scored quick and early and won this game with a clock killing ground game lead by Joseph Addai. Addai rushed for a season-high 79 yards and two touchdowns. Manning was efficient as usual going 24 of 37 for 270 yards and one TD. Oh and Pierre Garcon -- he might not be a great fantasy player but he was stellar catching six passes for a career-high 136 yards.
Indy reached more milestones after this win but the two I thought were the coolest were:
Matching New England's 21 win record, set from 2006-08. Any chance a team can break the Patriots record in any category I'm for it.
And tying the 1990s San Francisco 49ers for most wins in a decade with 113
If there was any team I wanted to take down the Colts it was the Titans. Now I say ... RUN THE TABLE!
