Positioning yourself as an expert is a great way to attract more business, retain your current clients, and build your name as a trusted resource. It’s a smart move especially for businesses that are advice based, such as consultants, coaches, and trainers. I’ve also seen it used brilliantly by lawyers, financial planners, designers, fitness professionals, retail store owners, and makeup artists, to name a few.

The internet gives us unlimited ways to get our messages out to the world. You can create blogs, podcasts, online radio, video, social media and other platforms to share your know-how.

But only using self-created media to position your business comes with a big caveat: it’s too easy make broad claims without providing any proof that you’re really the expert you say you are. That’s why every business owner must provide CREDIBLE PROOF that they are the expert they say they are.

The market wants you to prove you’re the real deal. We’ve had too many imposters show up out of the blue and make overblown claims that they’re the BEST, #1, or THE ULTIMATE. With the right sales approach and a slick branding job, anyone could conceivably PLAY the role… but look deeper and you’ll see they have nothing to stand on.

Your focus needs to be on building trust and showing people you’re the real deal.

This infographic shows you 4 places to focus on so you can build up your expert reputation as one based on your experience, competence, and integrity.

Establishing trust is absolutely essential to position yourself as an expert. Now that you have that… what are the nuts and bolts to put yourself out there?

Be sure to read my next article in this series, “ The 4 Keys To Position Yourself As An Expert “ so you can get the nuts and bolts of what you need in your toolbox.
