Visitors to San Francisco have often been faced with an inopportune dilemma: deal with the crazy tourist trap that is downtown San Francisco or stay outside of the City.

But starting this April, out-of-towners (or lucky locals) have a better option -- the Inn at the Presidio, San Francisco's first hotel in the historic Presidio.

A project of the Presidio Trust, the 22-room luxury bed and breakfast is the new incarnation of the renovated Pershing Hall that originally housed the Presidio's single officers.

"All hotel openings are special," said Inn at the Presidio General Manager Terry Haney to The Huffington Post. "But this project is much more special, because it's not about building something new, or even remodeling. It's about repurposing a historic landmark and giving it a new life." Haney, a seasoned hotelier, saw local success with the opening of the much-lauded W Hotel. "There's an excitement in the air," he said. "A rush of adrenalin knowing you're about to embark on a totally new adventure, giving people something they've never seen before."

Like the Presidio itself, the inn will give visitors the unique experience of a rural setting smack in the middle of the city, allowing guests to wake up in the forest and easily walk to the Marina, Cow Hollow, Crissy Field and the Golden Gate Bridge. The inn will also serve as a long-overdue complement to the Presidio's many parties and events. (According to the San Francisco Chronicle, events at the Presidio are expected to gross $1.1 million this year.)
