Instagram Created A Way To GIF Your Pictures With Boomerang

The app creates super-short videos out of photos.

Good news for everyone with short (very short) attention spans.

Instagram is rolling out a new app called Boomerang. It allows you to capture a one-second burst of photos and stitch them together into a silent mini-video.

The result is something between a GIF and a video loop -- it can be played forwards and backwards and has the same subtle choppy effect of the GIFs we know and love.

Let's say your friend does a sick backflip off a ledge into a pool filled with Jell-O. That in itself would be cool, but capturing a Boomerang of it would be even cooler.

The app, which is available on iOS and Android, doesn't have its own feed; instead, the Boomerangs ('Rangs, if we dare?) are automatically saved to your camera roll and can be shared on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.
