A celebrity hairdresser hit back at Instagram after he says the photo-sharing website removed a photo of him and his husband kissing.
Alberto Guzman posted a photo of him and his husband, makeup artist Janeiro Bofill, from their wedding day in honor of gay pride Sunday. He posted the touching image (which has since been restored by Instagram) along with a slew of equal rights hashtags, including "#happy #gaypride #equalrights #repostedmyweddingpicture #whenwesaidyes #tilldeathdousapart #wearethesame #nothingwrongwithbeingqueer #werequeerandwerehere."
Apparently, the photo was flagged as inappropriate and removed by Instagram, which has since apologized. Guzman explained: "I posted this photo of my wedding yesterday and Instagram took it off my album for being 'inappropiate' [sic] and on gay pride day of all days."
Friends began reposting the photo with a text overlay that read, "Instagram took down this photo for being inappropriate WTF." They encouraged others to do the same. Galadriel Masterson, who is a friend of the couple, was one person who reposted the image. She wrote:
These are my friends @titoguhair and @janeirobofillmakeup. They posted this pic yesterday on Instagram. They've been together 13 years and are legally married for 2 months. This is the kiss that sealed their wedding vows. Vows that under state and federal protection offer them 1500 rights and responsibilities. @instagram we expect an apology for taking this pic down and flagging it as inappropriate. PLEASE REPOST PLEASE REPOST PLEASE REPOST! #thisisgaypride #instagram #equalrights #nothingmorenothingless #equality
The photo was eventually restored, and Instagram apologized for the mishap.
"When our team processes reports from other members of the Instagram community, we occasionally make a mistake," an Instagram spokesperson told The Huffington Post Tuesday. "In this case, we wrongly removed content and rectified the error as soon as we were notified. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Instagram's community guidelines state that users are prohibited from sharing images that include nudity or mature content. "If you wouldn’t show the photo or video you are thinking about uploading to a child, or your boss, or your parents, you probably shouldn’t share it on Instagram," the guidelines read.
