Industrial Hemp is sweeping the country as more and more consumers seek alternative choices for their health care. It is legal in all 50 states and can be used for many different health issues. Opiate addiction is at it’s highest point in history and many baby boomers are looking for alternatives for pain management and overall general health. This has caused a ripple effect in the medical marijuana area and more states are approving marijuana use on both the medical side and recreational side. There are currently 28 states and the District of Columbia with medical marijuana laws on the books. This puts us at over 50 percent of the states saying that marijuana is an acceptable form of medication for many health issues. Eight states have adopted recreational marijuana laws and each year additional states are adding legalization or de-criminalization laws to their books.

The 2016 Election was a watershed year for marijuana reform, with four more states legalizing adult use and three more legalizing medical use. The Gallup Poll shows 60 percent of Americans support legalization of marijuana and 89 percent support medical marijuana.

High CBD and low THC forms of industrial hemp are the types of cannabis that are generally being recognized by many of the new laws. The Federal government has a patent on CBD for use as a neuro protectant and it is well documented that CBD can be part of your everyday diet. It’s health benefits without any wide ranging documented side effects make it an amazing supplement for daily use. CBD is now available in strengths up to 99% pure with some oils being 70% pure or more with terpenes.

Much of the information on CBD available claims that whole plant therapy is the only true way to benefit from the plant. I don’t believe this is true based on my personal experiences with the compound. It is clear to me that CBD is helpful for several different health issues if part of a regular supplementation through topical or internal products. CBD is available in many forms with oils, and isolates leading the way. In the oil format, flavor and concentrations are different and can be confusing to the consumer. Products made with isolate have generally better flavors or aromatic properties that make it the ideal format for use in edibles and topicals.

Costs of the product are related to how much refining is required to get to the purity level you are looking for. Labeling requirements vary and some state laws like Washington make CBD available only from licensed dispensaries. You will find new labeling by reputable sellers using anhydrous hemp oil on their labels if utilizing an isolate from imported hemp. This is smart labeling with those manufacturers utilizing the classification of import on the label. It is also important to know where the hemp comes from. Under the current farm bill, hemp grown in the United States can be used for research through very specific projects and supervised by Universities and other research institutes. Domestically sourced CBD is difficult to get into end user consumer products under current laws.

I have found a small public manufacturer in Florida that is making new products for Medical Marijuana Inc. and LiveWire Ergogenics, Inc. Alternative Products Unlimited is a subsidiary of The Apple Rush Company, (Otc Pink: APRU) doing contract manufacturing under the Kannakick label and LiveWire Energy chews, and several other white label and private label products. The company also has the capability to custom blend any active ingredients required by the customer in short runs or pilot batches. They are also setting up a bottling operation to make craft sodas without preservatives and maybe a hemp based drink in the future.

Rowdy Brand

I found this company after trying a pain balm called Magic Hands from Rowdy Brands that is manufactured and distributed through them. The product truly does relieve pain and is the best product I have experienced. The equipment in the manufacturing plant is sophisticated and very impressive for a company it’s size. I spoke to the Tony Torgerud, CEO of APRU, and learned that they are really pushing to add additional brands and white labeled products to their portfolio. They are even looking at opportunities in other states including California and Nevada. If you are looking for a great contract manufacturer to produce soft chewables, bars, or drinks, check them out.
