Interview with My Dad: Fatherhood, Adversity and Purpose

I've often wondered how he knew how to be such a wonderful, loving father, never having had a father growing up.

I decided to interview my father for Father's Day this year. My dad has had an amazing life. He suffered a terrible loss at two years old when his father died suddenly. He and his mother moved in with his grandparents and his grandfather became a father figure to him, but tragedy struck again when he also died, leaving my father without a father figure yet again at the tender age of four years old.

Despite his painful childhood trauma, my father went on to become an incredibly successful psychiatrist, helping people overcome mental illness and trauma in their lives. His passion for his patients and healing people has always inspired me. And, as a father myself, I've come to appreciate how deeply loving he was to me and my siblings growing up. I've often wondered how he knew how to be such a wonderful, loving father, never having had a father growing up.

I had a great time filming this with my dad. He really opened up and told me some things that I hadn't heard before. I decided to share it because I think there are some powerful messages about fatherhood, overcoming adversity and finding purpose. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed filming it.
