If you've downloaded iOS 7, all those fancy security measures on your iPhone won't save you from some good old-fashioned trickery.
When a new operating system rolls out, especially one with as many changes as iOS 7, bugs are to be expected. But one crafty iPhone user has already found a critical bug in the new operating system that will allow anyone to bypass a phone's lock screen -- granting access to the photos, email and more on the device.
The workaround, seen in the video above, is done on an iPhone 5 running iOS 7. Sure enough, following the steps within provides a blueprint for hijacking the phone. The steps essentially involve accessing the alarm clock through the new Control Center before entering the multitasking menu, where you can eventually access the phone's photos and everything else.
We verified that the bypass method does indeed work, and it's not difficult to execute. It took about three tries to get it right on an iPhone 5 running iOS 7. As Andy Greenberg at Forbes notes, it’s hard to tell whether this works on an iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S as of yet.
Apple quickly confirmed the existence of the bug. “Apple takes user security very seriously,” Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told AllThingsD. “We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update.”
For weary iPhone owners impatient for Apple's update, there is a way to squash this bug immediately. Simply go to your phone's Settings, then over to Control Center, and toggle off "Access on Lock Screen."
