Do you ever wish you could visit with a deceased mother? Have a conversation with your beloved grandmother in heaven? While it's true, you probably won't be able to call dad after he passed away to get the latest baseball scores, you can definitely get signs that they are okay and are still interested in what you are doing.

There are a number of ways I have been contacted by aunts, uncles and cousins who have passed on. They include visions, conversations in dreams, hearing the right music at incredibly the most poignant time, and their presence popping into my head starting up a conversation. At one time I was uncomfortable with these experiences, thought they were creepy. But I have grown to understand and greatly appreciate every one of them.

Our media, TV and films, create a negative portrayal of the dead. I would love to help change that. If I did a TV series, it would not be like "The Walking Dead." It would more likely be called "The Loving Alive."

Last year I began getting a new way to see the deceased: through pictures taken on iPhones. It started with this picture.

My husband and I were visiting the home where he grew up in Brooklyn. He was doing yard work all day and as night fell, he took this photo. No one was inside the home, but in the lower right window, I saw his beloved father, the grandfather of my children.

I see him plain as day. My husband was and still is skeptical. But others see it, too. One family member said it looks like he's in his 30s, about the time he bought the home. Still, doubts arise: Is it really him? And questions: What does he want to say? I didn't trust my own eyes and my own heart, so I consulted intuitive healer and psychic medium Peggy Rometo, who responded to my emails. Here are my questions and Peggy's answers:

Question #1: Was it my father-in-law?

"Yes."

Question #2: If yes, would he appear at a younger age?

"The purpose in individual spirits presenting themselves in different eras has to do with their excitement and connection to that part of their life. Many like to go back and relive special moments where they know they're loved ones on earth will connect with them most ... It can also be connected to the spirit's desire to be seen at that time in their life as it was their favorite time and they loved how they looked so they will depict themselves at that age."

Question #3: If it is him, how could we help others have this experience of their loved ones?

"Everything is energy ... Letting our loved ones know we want a sign or asking God to allow us to not be afraid to see or hear from our loved ones opens the door to our own mindset to begin to be open to the possibility that this could happen. You don't have to believe in order to receive a message, it just makes it easier and more accepting for our logical mind if you are open to the idea."

Then Peggy shared one of her own early experiences.

"I've heard shuffling feet across the floor in the middle of the night to wake me up to my uncle in the late stages of Alzheimer's who asked me to dictate a letter for him to his twin sons. He wanted them to stop visiting him and spend their time with their mother. He felt she needed them more. They followed his request and turned out she unexpectedly passed 6 weeks later, before their dad. When we open our mind to the possibility that there is something to this -- we allow for ourselves to perceive information."

Peggy says the best time to pick up on this energy is the middle of the night, even when we are sleep. She says that's when our "protective ego" is relaxed. "Our guard is down making it easier for our loved ones, angels or guides to communicate with us," Peggy says. "This is why many individuals' first spiritual experiences are either of dreams or during those moments between being sleep and awake."

And practice helps. Peggy says the more you do it, the stronger you become at it.

I have found that most times deceased loved ones visit you because you have questions and want to know if they are okay. They want to let us know they are fine and while their bodies are gone, their love is eternal, just like their energy.

Have you heard from your deceased loved ones?

If you hear from your deceased loved ones, how did it occur? What were they communicating? Comment below. And share my story, too.
