The Islamic State militant group has upended life for hundreds of thousands of Iraqis affected by the group's expanding influence in the region.

Entire communities have fled to escape the extremist group's destruction. ISIS members have raped women and thrown them into slavery, persecuted religious minorities, as Reuters reported, and taught children how to behead others in its training camps, according to an ABC News report.

An estimated 1.8 million Iraqis have been displaced since January due to ISIS, the United Nations announced Sunday. Here are organizations you can support that are helping Iraqi men, women and children every day:

Save the Children

Save the Children has helped 100,000 people in northern Iraq since June by providing hygiene and shelter kits and other vital resources to uprooted families. The organization is also working to ensure school-age kids in conflict areas have access to psychosocial and cultural activities.

UNICEF

UNICEF has delivered 33 metric tons of essential supplies for displaced Iraqi children and families in response to the recent violence.

International Rescue Committee

International Rescue Committee is providing clean water, medicine and other crucial supplies to displaced Iraqis. The organization is also providing financial assistance to about 20,000 displaced families, and plans to support recruitment efforts for more doctors and nurses needed for the recent influx of patients.

Christian Aid

Christian Aid is providing food, clothes, hygiene kits and other necessities to displaced families and persecuted religious minorities, including Yazidis and Christians.

Samaritan's Purse

Since August, Samaritan's Purse has distributed more than 2,200 baskets of food, tens of thousands of liters of water and 191 hygiene kits to Iraqi families in need. The group has provided 4,900 pillows, 7,500 mattresses and 125 cradle beds to fleeing families. It is also distributing diapers, clothing and gas cooking stoves to those in need.

World Vision

More than 2,000 people in Dahuk, Iraq, have received clothing, baby supplies, hygiene items and other forms of aid, thanks to efforts by World Vision. The Christian humanitarian organization is working with local partners on the ground to prioritize the immediate needs of displaced Iraqis.
