Iron Horse Ballroom In Durango Collapses Under Weight Of Snow

The roof of Durango's Iron Horse Inn ballroom/conference center collapsed Thursday morning, under the weight of more than 3 feet of snow that fell last week.

The Durango Herald reports a night auditor heard debris falling at about 3:15 a.m.

The 7,000 square foot building was built in 1972 and used to be a top venue for musical acts coming through the area in the 80s and 90s according to Gary Pennington, event specialist for For Lewis College who used to produce concerts independently.

Such acts as Cross Canadian Ragweed, Rita Marley, Bob Weir and Michael Martin Murphy came through the venue. In recent years the ballroom hosted trade shows and family reunions.
