IUPUI Lockdown: Possible Gunman Spurs Alert At Indianapolis Campus (UPDATE)

The Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis campus went on lockdown Tuesday after a possible gunman was spotted on campus, multiple news outlets reported.

A female student spotted a man with a long gun in a campus parking lot around 12:30 p.m. and reported it to police, according to the Associated Press. Students and staff were asked to seek shelter and avoid campus, WISH reports.

IUPUI sent an emergency alert via text message to students and posted an alert on Twitter:

Capt. Bill Abston told Fox59 that officers were on the scene within minutes, but were unable to find the reported gunman in a search of the parking lot. Police also received similar reports of a person matching the description of the suspected gunman spotted elsewhere on campus, but did not locate him. Authorities have cleared several buildings and are continuing to search the campus, Fox59 reports.

The NCAA headquarters, Riley Hospital for Children and Crispus Attucks High School are also on lockdown, according to multiple reports.

UPDATE: 5:29 p.m. -- The school sent out a tweet saying that the lockdown is over.
