Ja Rule, who recently spent nearly two years behind bars for illegal gun possession, landed a role in a new movie because screenwriter Galley Molina empathized with the rapper. Here's something you don't hear every day: Ja Rule is reportedly working on a "microwave cookbook" inspired by his stint in jail. That's right -- the 37-year-old rapper, né Jeffrey Atkins, will release an instruction manual on how to whip up creative comestibles in a microwave after having endured two years in prison for illegal gun possession. He was released in May 2013.

Atkins said he overcame the terrible food in prison by making his own meals. He also said he gained 30 pounds in the process. "[The food inside] is not too good but you get packages and stuff like that. You can eat pretty good. You can eat decent enough," he told TMZ. "I ate everything. In jail, they're pretty crafty. We made lasagna, we made cheesecakes, we had lots of things. I really didn't eat prison food."

The rapper made the announcement on Geoffrey Zakarian's SiriusXM show, "Food Talk."
