Arizona State University freshman Jack Culolias has been missing since Nov. 30 amid family concerns that fraternity hazing might have played a part, according to news outlets.
During an event for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the under-age Culolias, 19, was reportedly tossed drunk from the Cadillac Ranch bar about 11 p.m. Friday, and he left his cell phone, credit card and false identification, police said in several reports. He has not been seen since around that time.
ABC News reported that Grace Culolias, the student's mother, said her son worried about hazing rituals during fraternity pledging's "hell week" last week. Renae Culolias, his stepmother, also revealed Jack's concerns but said it was too early to point fingers, the Arizona Republic reported. Family friend Miguel Alvarez added in the same article that he hoped investigators wouldn't discover "foul play from the fraternity."
The Daily Mail, a British tabloid, interviewed Tempe, Ariz., police and said investigators were following up on the family worries, as few clues emerged in the case.
One development Tuesday ratcheted up concern for Culolias, who's from Brea, Calif.. His mother found a red sneaker on the edge of Tempe Town Lake near the bar that she says is his, but police have not confirmed that, CBS News said. A massive search of the area reportedly turned up nothing else.
As of Tuesday, police said it had no reason to suspect foul play at this point, CBS added.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon set up a “Bring Jack Home” Facebook page and said in a statement to ABC News that it "takes a very strong stance against hazing and has zero tolerance for it."
