Jack Dishel is a NYC-based singer/songwriter who records under the moniker Only Son, and is a former lead guitarist for The Moldy Peaches. But hang out with the native New Yorker (by way of the Russia as a wee lad) for like five seconds, and you'll see why his side gig is as a stand-up comedian. Dishel is one funny dude, as you'll see in an A-Sides interview below, but let's focus on the music. That's why you opened this post, isn't it?

Only Son released his sophomore album Searchlight nearly two years ago, just dropped a music video for single "Kick 'Em Out," and is currently touring with his wife Regina Spektor on her What We Saw From the Cheap Seats tour.

At the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester prior to the one-two punch of Dishell and Spektor, Only Son performed a pair of songs, and Dishell and I talked at length about important stuff, his music and less-than-important stuff. Watch. Listen. Love.

About A-Sides with Jon Chattman
Jon Chattman's music series features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, I'm hoping this is refreshing.
