Jack Harry, Kansas City Broadcaster, Denies 'Gayhawks' On-Air Gaffe

A Kansas City broadcaster is feeling the heat in the blogosphere after allegedly referring to the University of Kansas' men's basketball team as the "Gayhawks."

As SB Nation and Yahoo! Sports first reported, Jack Harry apparently made the gaffe during a live broadcast on KSHB 41 Action News in Kansas City, video of which can be found via Rock Chalk Blog. The team's official name, it should be noted, is the Kansas Jayhawks.

Harry, who is the Sports Director of the NBC affiliate, quickly released a follow-up video in response to the ensuing controversy, in which he denied ever making the slur.

"I've had my go-around with Jayhawk fans, but I would never say what I have been accused of," Harry noted in his follow-up video.

Meanwhile, MediaKC reports that KSHB released a statement on Facebook addressing the "Gayhawks" debacle.

"While Jack Harry is opinionated, he knows the difference between legitimate sports discussion and unacceptable, uncalled for language," the statement read. "After speaking at length with Jack, we believe Jack when he tells us that is not what he said."
